LITURGICAL MINISTRIES

The Mass, the Eucharistic Liturgy, is central to Catholic faith life. It is rich in symbolism and expression of Catholic theology. It is the central act of worship, in which Catholics believe that bread and wine are truly turned into Christ’s body and blood and shared among those assembled.

Ordained Celebrant – the priest or bishop who celebrates the mass.

Lectors or Readers – entrusted with reading the first reading during daily mass and the first and second readings at Sunday masses and other major feasts

Altar Servers – assist the priest in the celebration of the mass.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion – non-ordained people who help with the distribution of communion.

Music Ministers and Cantors – provide music during the mass and other liturgical celebrations and lead the congregation in singing.

Arts and Environment – people who ensure the liturgical environment is reverent, attractive and liturgically appropriate.

Greeters and ushers – hospitality ministry greeting and welcoming people.

“….the liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed; it is also the fount from which all her power flows”
